Analysis of Rainfall Trends over Assam, North East India

The spatio-temporal variations of long-term rainfall over Assam in the North Eastern part India were analyzed using data from twenty-six locations during period 1981-2017. annual, monthly, and seasonal trends are assessed by Mann-Kendall Sen slope tests different sub regions. September, December, January, February months recorded decreasing trends, while May, June, August exhibited statistically substantial increasing trends. Similarly, pre monsoon season seasons but post winter non-significant Demaji, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Lakhimpur with above 2000 mm annual rainfall. On time scales, witnessed notable non-significant. In season, a declining trend was first decade (2001-2010). southern northeastern portion state received maximum average when compared to central Brahmaputra valley state. have been Karimganj (36.8%), Hailakandi (31.9%), Silchar Dhuburi (26.5%) Any slight could certainly be vulnerable as which comprises flood plains sub-Himalayan boundaries, also supports large chunk human well ecosystem populations. present scenario, extreme unprecedented events can affect agricultural activities, stream flow, availability food, etc., may lead disparities socio-economic conditions area. results would beneficial policymakers understanding impact changing climates assessing climatic vulnerability natural resources.
